About
Intro
Zouk Haus was founded by Ling, Miah and Abigail. We opened in February 2026 because Hong Kong had few Brazilian Zouk dancers and no zouk school to grow our community.
How this started
Brazilian Zouk is a smooth, flowing partner dance that grew out of 1980s Lambada and Caribbean Zouk music. It took shape in Rio de Janeiro, where dancers developed a new technique, embrace and body language. Today it's danced in communities worldwide, including right here in Hong Kong.
For Ling, it started in London while working as a shipping lawyer. Then she moved to Hong Kong. She kept dancing and trained for years with a local Brazilian instructor, Xina, specialising in the genre of Soulzouk.
Five years later, she continued training with other international artists whenever they came through HK, as well as in Taiwan and other destinations. Her dance moved away from Soulzouk style to more Rio-Zouk. In this journey, she met Miah and Abigail in the HK dance community.
So she opened a room. Miah and Abigail joined as co-founders, and in February 2026, Zouk Haus opened its doors.
We didn't just build a space, we built a home. We designed the studio, built the playlist, and went out to find our people, one connection at a time. Our little HK and international Zouk Haus family keeps growing.
Our founders are always on the floor, whether it's a practica, a private session, or a fundamentals class. This community isn't something we built for you, we're building it with you.
What we are trying to do
Three things.
Teach with structure. Partner or social dance is like a language. We are all learning to speak the same language. Once we learn the rules and structure of a language, we learn to communicate and enjoy the dance more. Once the fundamentals are internalised, it's easier to learn more challenging, flashy moves and execute them safely. It's a curriculum you can progress through, with moves that mesh easily with the others.
Keep the room open. Hong Kong is short of affordable floor space built for dancing. We offer it to other instructors and anyone who wants somewhere cosy to practise.
Make it easy to walk in. Most people who want to try this never do, because turning up alone to a partner dance class is intimidating. We have put a lot of thought into the first fifteen minutes.
